Hayden seniors awarded scholarships

  Hayden High School’s 2022 Scholarship Banquet was held on Tuesday, May 10, at which the graduates were rewarded with thousands of dollars in scholarships and awards for all their hard work.

  Dinner was enjoyed from 5:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. after which Hayden-Winkelman Unified School District Superintendent Jeff Gregorich presented the welcome address which began the scholarship presentations.

  Gila County Sheriff Deputy Gilbert Olivares presented the Deputy Olivarez Honorary Lobo Scholarship to Miranda Gomez ($250); Gila County Law Related Education Scholarship to Aiyana Gonzales ($250); Gila County Posse Ron Neldon Memorial Scholarship to Meiyah Stacy ($500) and the Gila County Search and Rescue Ron Neldon Memorial Scholarship of $500 to Amariz Ochoa.

 The Waddell Family presented the Christian Waddell Scholarship to Amariz Ochoa (laptop and case); and the Lagunas Scholarships to Robert Casillas and Angelita Casillas. Each scholarship was $250.

  Thelma Casillas presented the Cynthia Magallanez Scholarship of $1,000 per year/$500 per semester to Greace Corona.

  Jeff and Angelita Gregorich presented the Education Professions Scholarship of $100 to Aaron Peed, Aiyana Gonzales, Greace Corona, Miranda Gomez, Jennifer Gregorich and Ariza Castillo.

  The Familia Scholarship was presented by Nanny Moreno to Amariz Ochoa ($440)

   Kathy Cruz presented the Filiberto and Enedina Cruz “Lobo For Life” Scholarships of $200 to Aiyana Gonzales, Amariz Ochoa and Octavio Aragon.

  The Hayden-Winkelman Parent-Teacher Organization Scholarships of $200 were presented by Nanny Moreno to Aiyana Gonzales, Amariz Ochoa, Greace Corona and Octavio Aragon.

  Irma Newman presented the JR Chamber of Commerce Scholarship of $100 to Aiyana Gonzales and Amariz Ochoa.
  Lydia Martinez, Anna Guzman and Carol Lorona presented the Lopez Family Scholarship of $250 to Aiyana Gonzales and Amariz Ochoa.

  Robbin and Irma Newman presented the Newman Construction Scholarship of $400 to Aiyana Gonzales, Amariz Ochoa and Leticia Cruz.
  Amariz Ochoa earned the $500 Nolberto“Chuco” Waddell Scholarship which was presented by Anthony Waddell.
  The Ray Federal Credit Union scholarship was presented by Dan Thurman to Aaron Peed ($500).

  Jovanna and Francisco Calzadillas presented the Perseverance Scholarship of $500 to Amariz Ochoa and Seth Slate.
  ASARCO Academic Scholarships 2022 of $1,000 each were presented by Francisca Canisales, Karla Sanchez and Paulina Horta to Aiyana Gonzales Amariz Ochoa and Greace Corona.
  Pamela Gonzalez presented the Adri Cruz Memorial Scholarship of $250 to Amariz Ochoa and Seth Slate ; Gila County Supervisors 1,2, and 3 Scholarships of $625 to Aiyana Gonzales, Amariz Ochoa, Meiyah Stacy and Miranda Gomez ; the Gila Gem and Mineral Scholarship to Amariz Ochoa ($500) and the Ultimate Welding & Fabrication Scholarship to Aiyana Gonzales ($750).

   Also presented by Pamela Gonzalez were the Northern Arizona University Grant of $1,520 per year to Amariz Ochoa ; University of Arizona Scholarship to; the New Mexico State University Scholarship Aiyana Gonzales. ($17,621 per year) and SaddleBrooke Community Outreach Scholarship of $12,00 total was presented to Amariz Ochoa ($1,500 per semester). 
  The Resolution Copper’s Native American Scholarship was awarded to Aiyana Gonzales  ($3,000); and General Scholarship of $3,000 to Amariz Ochoa by Sylvia Lechuga.
  The New Mexico State University-Crimson Success Out-of-State Scholarship was awarded to Aiyana Gonzales ($3,000).
  The Northern Arizona Lumberjack Scholarship Merit Based Scholarship Full Tuition of approximately $44,000 was awarded to Amariz Ochoa.
  Amariz Ochoa was awarded the University of Arizona Distinction Award of approximately $30,000.

  Those who were extended thanks for making the banquet both necessary and a success were, from the School Board: President Thomas Lagunas, Vice President and Members: Ernestine Lorona, Joe Marin and Jessica Quesada; from Administration: Superintendent Jeff Gregorich, Academic Counselor Pamela Gonzalez, Assistant Academic Counselor Jacque Pool, Academic/CTE Assistant Mitzi Ochoa and Athletic Director Lydia Martinez.
