The Ray Lady ‘Cats and the Hayden Lobos were on fire this week.
The Lady ‘Cats kicked off the week on March 8, with a home game against Duncan. The girls came out on top, defeating Duncan in a devastating 26-3.
On March 10, the softball team joined other teams at the Joseph City Softball Invitational. The Lady ‘Cats kept up their hot-streak winning their first game against Hopi by shutting them out 19-0. Later that day, they played against St. Michael, and faced a tough loss with a final score of 0-11. The following day, the girls started off their day with a game against Pinon. Avenging themselves from their previous loss, the Lady ‘Cats shut down Pinon 22-0. The second game of that day was against invitational hosts Joseph City. Once again, the game flip-flopped from the previous one, resulting in the girls losing 0-18.
On March 9, the Hayden baseball team played against Tempe Prep. The Lobos started off the first inning strong, not allowing Tempe Prep to post any runs, while they scored 3 runs. Hayden continued to keep control of the game, scoring 2 more runs in the second inning, 1 run in the third inning, 1 run in the fifth inning, and 2 runs in the sixth inning. Tempe Prep struggled to break through Hayden’s defense, and weren’t able to score any runs. The Lobos shut out the Knights, with a final score of 9-0.
Junior Moraes Cruz and freshman Jordan Rodriguez had good days at bat, both going 3 for 4.
The Ray Bearcats had mixed results from games last week.
The boys’ week started March 8, with a home game versus Morenci. The game ended in Morenci’s favor, with a final score of 1-10.
On March 11, the Bearcats traveled to compete in the Bisbee Baseball Spring Tournament. The boys’ only game for that day was against Alchesay, which ended with a 6-2 win. The following day started with a game against Wickenberg. The Bearcats were able to post another 6 runs during this game, but they fell short by 5 runs, with a final score of 6-11. Later that day they met up against Wilcox. The Bearcats had a hard time breaking through Wilcox’s defense, but were able to get through in the third and fourth innings. The game ended in a close 11-13, in Wilcox’s favor.
Up next for Hayden: Both of Hayden’s teams were scheduled to play against San Tan on yesterday at home, then travel to Superior to face off with the Panthers on March 17. Results of Tuesday’s game was unavailable at press time.
Up next for Ray: On March 16, the Lady ‘Cats travel to St. John Paul II High School. The boys will host Tempe Prep on March 18. Game time is 10 a.m. The Lady ‘Cats are back on the road March 21 to Sequoia Charter.
