About 30 people were busy early Thursday morning last week planting native trees along the Gila River in Kearny.
The Winkelman Natural Resource Conservation District sponsored the planting under the direction of Bill Dunn and Kyle Thompson with the Winkelman NRCD. The trees were grown and provided by the Oracle Community Learning Garden which also helped in the planting along with the Town of Kearny and the Winkelman NRCD.
The trees are willow and cottonwood which are native to Arizona. The group set out about 450 trees and plan to do more soon. They wanted to do their part in providing native trees along the river.
