Lowell Steve Jacobson, also known as “Jake” Jacobson, 80, passed away Saturday, July 24, 2021 at his home in Tucson.

  He was born in 1940 in Riley County, Kansas, the son of Myron Jacobson and Irene (Anderson) Jacobson.

  Jake worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for the first 29 years of his 61-year railroad career. For the next 32 years he worked for the Copper Basin Railway in Hayden, Arizona where he served as the President and Chief Operating Officer.

  Jake was named Railway Age’s Railroader of the Year in 1994, and a Great Railroader of the Century in December 1999.

  The American Shortline safety award is named after him: The Jake Award.

  Jake was the Copper Basin Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year for 1998.

  He is survived by his wife, Patricia Jacobson; his sister, Marlene Faulkender of Colorado Springs; his son, Michael Jacobson and wife Natalie of Tucson; and hisImage daughter, Jacquelyn Jacobson of Tucson. Jake is survived by 6 grandchildren.

  He was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Myron S. Jacobson of Ozawkie, Kansas.

  He will be missed tremendously by his family and friends.
