Rita G. Romo, 99, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at her home in Chandler, AZ, on Feb. 26, 2021.
Born on May 21, 1921 in Tucson, AZ, to Maria and Leonides Gomez, Rita attended school in Nogales, AZ. Rita lived in Kearny for many years, working for Ray District Schools for 35 years as a secretary and later as secretary to the guidance counselor. She was also Pioneer Day Grand Marshal one year. Later in life, Rita moved to Chandler with her daughter and son-in-law, Sylvana and Julian.
She will always be remembered as someone who loved gardening, going out to eat, listening to music, dancing and watching the Lawrence Welk Show. Rita touched many lives. She helped raise many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lived for her family, especially her grandchildren, who would sometimes affectionately call her “Nana Momo”. Our lives and hearts will never be the same.
Rita is preceded in death by her husband, Jesus “Chito” Romo; brothers, Emiliano and Pedro Gomez; son, Emilio Flores; and granddaughter, Susan Rubal. Rita will be dearly missed by her children, Rudolph Flores, Norma F. (Richard) Celis and Sylvana R. (Julian) Acevedo; grandchildren, Albert, Erika and Rudy (Yvette) Flores, Teresa Gonzales, Leonard (Ofelia) Hernandez, Branden (Beth Ann) Hernandez, Stephanie (Mario) Celis, Christy Acevedo, Julian Acevedo Jr. and Jennifer Acevedo; 20 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
It is Rita’s wishes that there be no services.
