Benjamin Hernandez, 69, passed Sept. 26, 2020 at home in Superior, Arizona. He was born on Dec. 14, 1950 in Prescott to Benjamin and Katie Hernandez.
He was a lifelong resident of Superior and graduated from Superior High School in 1970. He worked at Kennecott and Magma mines, followed by a career change to the Department of Corrections. He retired after 30 years.
Benjamin was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved sports and was an avid fan. Throughout his life, he was very involved with Superior Little League, coaching, umpiring, calling games, and serving on the board. He later enjoyed watching his grandchildren play as well. He was a devoted member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish.
Benjamin is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Virgie Campos Hernandez; son, Benjamin Hernandez III (Donnie); daughter, Sherry Tapia (Eddie); daughter, Jessie Hernandez; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by son Anthony, his parents Benjamin and Katie, and his brother Richard. He is also survived by many brothers and sister-n-laws, nieces, nephews, godchildren, and numerous family and friends.
Services for Benjamin were held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Friday, Oct. 2, 2020. He was laid to rest at Fairview Cemetery. The family was assisted by Superior Funeral Home.
