Laurist “Larry” Ramirez passed away on Dec. 11, 2018 at his home in Redington at the age of 53.
Larry was born in Castro Valley, CA and raised in Mammoth, AZ. He was a graduate of San Manuel High School, and attended college at Northern Arizona University and Central Arizona College.
Larry’s career included working as a sales associate for Home Depot. He worked in management in the automotive and recreational vehicle industries for companies such as Beaudry RV (Tucson, San Marcos, and San Diego), DeMontrond RV in Houston and Galveston, TX, and Ron Hoover RV in Rockport, TX. He also served as the Director of the Mammoth-San Manuel Community Schools program for several years.
His community involvement included serving on the Mammoth Town Council and the San Manuel Education Foundation Board, and volunteering as a firefighter for the Mammoth Fire District. He was a youth swim coach and volunteered with the Boy Scouts. His community service earned him the 2012 Citizen of the Year Award by the San Manuel Elks Club.
Larry loved the outdoors and his hobbies included hiking, fishing, mountain biking, riding his motorcycle and ATVs, SCUBA diving, and skydiving. He also enjoyed attending sporting events such as football and hockey.
In addition to all of these community service and outdoor interests, he also enjoyed woodworking, and doing automotive repair and classic car restoration.
He is survived by his wife, Nina Crowder; brother, Kevin Callahan (Becky); sister, Shannon Ramirez; and nephews, Shaun Callahan and Joseph Ramirez Jr.
He is preceded in death by his father, Jose M. Ramirez; his mother, Syble Ruth Ramirez; sisters, Theresa, Tracy and Irene (Chris); and brother, J.R.
Services for Larry will be held on Jan. 5, 2019 at the San Manuel High School auditorium at 2 p.m., 711 S. McNab Pkwy. A reception will follow in the San Manuel High School Cafeteria. Everyone is welcome.
