The year 2018 has flown by and one of my favorite months, November. For me, November is a time of great reflection, a time to honor our Veterans, it is a time be thankful for all that we have been blessed with. It is a time to catch up with friends and family and enjoy the fruits of our labor.
November 2018 has been momentous for Superior. Our beloved Superior Panthers have achieved a State Football Championship and we are thankful that this victory has finally come, and that our athletes are healthy and strong. These students also continue to strive academically: they are our future. We watched our smelter stack come down, with a sense of somber sadness in memorial to this structure and those who worked there and with great optimism for what the future will bring.
This is a time to be thankful for everyone who puts their heart and soul into our community. All of our Town Staff members who have been dedicated to improving how our town operates.
Our Police and Fire departments have added new equipment, increased training on everything from arson, domestic violence, communication, de-escalation and many other relevant trainings. The Public Works department continues to work on road and street improvements, our new resurface of Main Street has been a major improvement and more is on the way. We received good news that our Waste Water collection system is in good shape and we will be able to construct a more efficient waste water treatment plant in 2019.
Our library is open more hours and this year, a new food service contractor was hired to improve food quality at the Senior Center. For the first time in many years, the Town has a full time Town Clerk and our administration department is running full steam ahead to keep the entire town running smoothly and in compliance with all regulations. Our Youth Council gets stronger every year and currently they are responsible for choosing playground equipment sponsored by Resolution Copper at the US 60 Caboose Park.
Many hands make light work and if it were not for the dedication of our numerous non-profits and school groups some of our progress may not have been achieved. Our most recent successes as a community are because we all working together. The Superior Chamber of Commerce continues to work on supporting our local businesses, promoting Superior and hosting large events that attract thousands of people to Superior. Rebuild Superior, Inc., one of our newest non-profits, has hired consultants who have provided strategic direction for the Town that will help us improve our economic diversity. Rebuild Superior, Inc. has also been focused on beautifying Superior by offering the free paint program and organizing free dump days, they have much more in store.
We must also commend groups like the Superior Optimist Club and Rotary Clubs who provide activities and events for the community and support the youth. Our VFW is one of the strongest Veterans organizations in the area; they spend time mentoring our youth and their membership have a renewed energy to serve the Veterans of Superior and the surrounding areas. Our local Superior Food Bank is always there to lend a helping hand; they remain dedicated to ensuring everyone has food in Superior. The Legends of Superior Trails Inc. continues to advocate for new and improved trail construction. The Red Bears continue to educate our youth on hunting and outdoor recreation safety and they are always available to cook for community barbecues and events. Our churches are active and involved in the community, always there to provide spiritual guidance and love. Our Little League continues to offer quality baseball and softball programs at affordable prices, they are the first steps for many of our athletes who go on to become champions athletically and academically.
We are fortunate to have many partners in the business world from our biggest companies like Resolution Copper and local utilities to the entrepreneurs and shop owners who have invested in Superior. Our success only comes when we are all working together.
Superior is SUPERIOR in all ways because of each and every one of us who call Superior home. From my family to yours, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving and wonderful holidays.
Together, We are Superior!
