Joyce Hughey

  Joyce Hughey, 90, passed away April 9, 2018, at Northwest Medical Center in Tucson due to complications from pulmonary fibrosis.

  She was born in Breckenridge, Texas on Nov. 9, 1927 to J.C. and Mary Lou Sims. During her life, she lived in Texas, Nebraska, New Mexico and Arizona.

  She married Jimmie Bowra and they had one son, Tommy Burr Bowra. She and Tommy moved to San Manuel after Joyce and Jimmie divorced in 1954. Joyce married Sammie McCabe, the butcher in Creed’s Market, in 1958. They were married until his death in 1974. Later she married George Hughey and they were married until his death in 1987.

  She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands and son, Tommy Bowra.

  She is survived by a sister, Mary Jay Humphreys (Bob); daughter-in-law, Patty Bowra; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jimmy and Lynda Hughey; and stepdaughter, Charlyn Bantlin and husband Frank; grandchildren, Brian Bowra and Mychel Westra (Jeff). Joyce had four generations surviving her: many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many friends and loved ones.

  Joyce attended many different grade schools and then, in 1948, graduated from high school in Sundown, Texas.

  She worked in the offices of Magma Copper Company for 32 years until her retirement on Dec. 31, 1987.

  Joyce was a great cook and artist. She crocheted many beautiful items and was an excellent photographer. She was active in Beta Sigma Phi for more than 60 years.

  Services were held April 20, 2018, at East Lawn Palms in Tucson and she was inurned at East Lawn Palms Mausoleum of Peace.
