Lorraine Birkett and her T-shirt dying crew are hard at work making Kearny T-shirts the brightest ones on the planet! Pictured from left are: Jodie Olsen, Macie Olsen, Lorraine Birkett, Christianna Martinez, Jazmyne Giorsetti and Lisa Baca.

Freshly laundered old Pioneer Days t-shirts are being sought as donations. If you have one you care to part with, for a worthy cause, then donate it in the big box at Old Time Pizza, 370 Alden Rd.
“Our idea is to collect enough good-quality shirts that we can give one t-shirt to each of our hikers that come in from The Arizona National Scenic Trail,” said one of the organizers.

Kearny has a history of providing respite for weary long-distance hikers coming in from the trail. A quick internet search will garner you a colorful story or two, if you aren’t in Kearny to hear them for yourself.  Still, even a place as well known and looked forward to by hikers could use a little extra advertising.

“Imagine the advertising value of a hiker heading north past Roosevelt Lake or up to the Grand Canyon, wearing a brightly colored t-shirt that proclaims the Town of Kearny on the front and gives a list of our local businesses on the back.” another organizer said.
Perhaps, even when they return home, the hikers will continue to wear their Kearny t-shirts, sparking curiosity and conversation among those who have not yet visited.
T-shirts will be checked for quality, sorted by size and folded so as to be presented neatly. For more information on Kearny’s bid to be known as the Friendliest Town on The Arizona Trail, visit the Facebook page.

Adding some really bright colors!
