99.3 The Wave
Scott Kramer owner/operator of Gold Canyon Public Radio has been in the radio and broadcasting business since he was 15 years old. It is something he is passionate about and when the FCC opened up four new frequencies he started a non-profit so he could apply to have a non-profit public radio station in Gold Canyon.
On Aug. 7, 2007 99.3 KRWV also known as the WAVE started its first broadcast. The station features of variety of music from smooth jazz and classical music. They also have a focus on health and wellness. Sundays, they devote the afternoon to airing health and wellness programming that is affiliated with the Mayo Clinic.
Public Radio stations operate differently than commercial radio stations. Businesses who “sponsor” the station can have air time to share their product or services and they become partners to the non-profit organization.
Scott decided to join the Superior Chamber of Commerce because he sees potential for Superior and the growth of many new businesses.
“Superior hasn’t been fully discovered yet,” Scott said. “I believe my radio station can help local organizations and businesses share their stories through ‘The WAVE.’”
At this time, the radio station can be heard within a 20-mile radius of Gold Canyon, into San Tan Valley, Apache Junction, East Mesa, and all the way east to the Boyce Thompson Arboretum.
Scott’s advice to his fellow business owners and future entrepreneurs: “Be thorough, ask for advice when you don’t know the answers. Talk with experts and develop a business plan.”
