The old Mountain View Hotel building is the site of a new church in Oracle. It is no longer the First Baptist Church. Iglesia Bautista Horeb is the name of the new church located at 502 E. American Avenue.
The Pastor is Marcos Campos. He is originally from Chihuahua, Chihuahua Mexico. Marcos studied Theology at El Seminario Biblico Rio Grande in McCallen, Texas. He received his degree from the Universidad Bautista de las Americas in San Antonio and his Masters Degree in Theology at Seminario Bautista del Suroeste in Ft. Worth. He and his wife Claudia Bustamante Campos live in Catalina.
The church started out in Catalina in April 2013 having services in members’ homes. Pastor Marcos called this “church planting”. They moved to the Golder Ranch Fire Station in 2015 where they rented a room. In November of 2017 they moved the church to Oracle when they were given the opportunity to use the building that was once the Mountain View Hotel and where the First Baptist church held its services.
Iglesia Baptista Horeb is affiliated with the Southern Baptists of Tucson and Catalina Baptist Association.
Iglesia Baptista Horeb has services in Spanish.
“There are not many Spanish speaking churches around,” said Campos. “The Spanish speaking community is underserved. We have a lot of work to do. One of our goals is to reach out to the Hispanic community in Oracle, Mammoth and San Manuel.”
Pastor Campos wanted to say something in Spanish to the Hispanic people in the area:
“Somos una comunidad de hispanos despuestos de recirbilos, nos dar mucho que compartamos mas tiempo juntos entre hispanos. Dios les bendiga.”
On Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 7 p.m., there will be an open house at Iglesia Bautista Horeb with a dedication ceremony in English and Spanish.
