The home of Marilee Lasch and Daystar Studios.
The three story home at the corner of Lime and Magma is more than just a home. It is also the location for Daystar Studios owned by Marilee Lasch. When Marilee came to Superior, 13 years ago, she said that her heart strings tugged at her. Following her heart, she decided to move to Superior, knowing that it had the potential to become the next destination for artists and tourists.
Marilee offers art classes, custom art design and holds a few events throughout the year attracting hundreds of people to visit her home. Her home as been featured in Arizona Highways and has been on the Superior Chamber of Commerce Home tours several times.
One of the classes that Marilee teaches is a six-week course called “The Artists Way.” The curriculum is designed to help participants become more comfortable and creative in making art. Each week they complete a project while working on basic techniques. She also teaches mosaic tile classes where participants can make custom tea trays or other items. Her classes are often the best kept secret: she has offered classes on how to make Fairy Gardens, holiday crafts and occasionally teaches oil painting.
During the 2018 Home Tour (this weekend) Marilee will open her home to sell and display her work along with the art of five other artists. The art show will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. this Saturday and Sunday. Visitors can also get a quick peek of her home although full tours will not be available.
Marilee can help anyone with custom murals, paintings, beaded jewelry or mosaic tile projects. Locally she has designed and completed the mural on the Dalton Realty Building and she worked with the Headstart and Superior Chamber of Commerce on the desert landscape mural on the Payer Motors Building on the west end of Main Street. She has also volunteered to help restore the mural on the Senior Center building that was designed and installed in the late 90s by local high school students.
In December, she hosts a Holiday Craft Boutique and in the fall she hosts a labyrinth walk which features local musicians at her home/studio. She plans to add a story telling event and sessions in the near future.
Marilee has a big heart for Superior and enjoys sharing her local art talents with many groups and organizations. She partnered with Awesome Possum to raise money for school art programs by painting chairs to be auctioned off. Her advice to other artists and those who are considering art businesses “Just keep going. Never give up.” she explained. She also stressed the importance of publicity and networking with other artists.
