Three people were taken to the hospital early last week following a two-vehicle crash in front of Oracle Land and Homes in the 1800 block of W. American Ave., Oracle.

According to Tim Gaffney, Public Information Officer for Pinal County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013.

A white 1993 Ford Festiva, driven by Jennifer Griffen of Oracle, was heading east on American Avenue when it crossed the center lane into oncoming traffic, colliding with a black 1987 Toyota 1/2 ton pickup, driven by Tyler Kay of San Manuel.

Griffen sustained several injuries in the accident and was taken via helicopter to University Medical Center in Tucson. A passenger in her car, identified as Anthony Rengifo, was also injured and was taken by ambulance to UMC. A third subject, a witness who had been standing in a nearby parking lot, said she had been struck in the face by a rock from the collision and was also transported by ambulance to UMC. She was not identified by PCSO.

The Festiva’s engine caught fire as a result of the accident. Oracle Fire Department extinguished the fire. It sustained heavy damage to the front driver’s side. The windshield was cracked in two places.

The Toyota sustained heavy damage to the driver’s side rear and undercarriage.

Gaffney said that neither driver exhibited any signs of impairment.
