Officials from the Queen Valley Fire District are pleased with the agreement struck between the district and Resolution Copper.
The Queen Valley Fire District is set to receive a $165,000 contribution from Resolution Copper Mining, according to an agreement signed by the two organizations this week.
The funding, which will be paid in annual installments over the next five years, will help support fire protection, rescue and emergency medical services for Resolution property, located near the Queen Valley Fire District and the Town of Superior.
“This strong financial support is necessary to help us serve not just Resolution, but the entire community,” said Queen Valley Fire District Chief, Cecil Fendley. “We will use the funding to maintain our equipment, train our staff and support the life-saving services we provide.”
Resolution is in the process of planning and permitting a proposed copper mining operation that could create approximately 3,700 jobs, generate over $60 billion in economic impact and result almost $20 billion in state and federal tax payments.
“In everything we do, safety is our first priority. That means having plans and processes in place to reduce risk and preen on-the-job accidents, but it also means partnering with the community to ensure we have well-trained, well-equipped first responders, “ said Andrew Taplin, project director for Resolution. “By supporting the Queen Valley Fire District, we help ensure Queen Valley and the surrounding areas have access to dependable fire, rescue and emergency medical services.”
Resolution has a long history of supporting the community, and contributes to education, environmental and community and human development program throughout the Copper Triangle region.
In addition to serving Queen Valley, the Fire District is often dispatched to Superior as part of the auto aid system, and is called upon to fight wildfires throughout the area.
Queen Valley Fire District provides fire, search and rescue, emergency medical services, and wildfire fighting among the community and surrounding areas in Queen Valley, Arizona. The District employs three full-time firefighters/EMTs and is supported by approximately 30 volunteers.
The Resolution Copper Project is operated by Resolution Copper Mining, which is a limited liability company owned 55 percent by Resolution Copper Company, a Rio Tinto PLC subsidiary, and 45 percent by BHP Copper Inc., a BHP Billiton PLC subsidiary.
