Pinal County Attorney’s Office Defers Complaint Against CAC for Alleged Open Meeting Violation to AG’s Office

FLORENCE– Recently, the Pinal County Attorney’s Office received a written complaint from a Pinal County interest group claiming Central Arizona College’s Board of Governors violated the Arizona open meeting laws. PCAO’s Civil Division looked into the complaint and recommended to the complainant the matter be referred to the Arizona Attorney General’s Office for investigation.

Because the AG’s Office currently handles a separate complaint against one of CAC’s board members, PCAO prudently decided this latest complaint must go to that office as well.

“Because the Arizona Attorney General’s Office already received and currently investigates one complaint, we must refer this new complaint to that office to investigate also. We do so in the best interest of all parties. We do not want to create dual investigations, so referring the case to the AG’s Office remains the best decision. Furthermore, the AG’s Office has an Open Meetings Law Enforcement Team specifically dedicated to handle these types of complaints,” said Pinal County Attorney Lando Voyles.
