The Panthers’ volleyball team will play in their first tournament of the year on Saturday, October 5, 2013. The Panthers’ have played a limited schedule compared to some of their opponents and are looking forward to competing in the Salt River Tournament this weekend.
The Panthers had their three-match winning streak ended in their last outing versus Ray, 3 – 1. Head coach Cheryl Lopez said playing a very good Ray squad was a good measuring stick for her team. Despite the loss, Coach Lopez knows her team is talented and capable.
“I feel the team can compete with higher (skilled) teams at this point,” Lopez said. “The match (versus Ray) was evenly played.”
Ariel Alonzo, Gabby Salcido and Cierra Navarrette were named players of the game in the match against Ray.
Coach Lopez and the Panthers have an optimistic outlook as their season continues, but they know some improvements need to be made if they want their optimism to become reality.
“We still need to work out our communication and back row movement for defense,” Lopez said.
The Salt River Tournament will provide an opportunity to work out the kinks and gain some valuable game experience as their schedule begins to get a little busier over the next few weeks.
