Matthew Zavala a sophomore at Superior High School was selected by his teachers and school administration to be the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership delegate this summer. Matthew will attend a leadership camp this summer at ASU.

HOBY’s mission is to inspire and develop a global community of youth and volunteers to a life of dedicated to leadership service and innovation. HOBY conducts programs throughout the United States serving local and international high school students.

The selected delegates participate in unique leadership training and service-learning and motivation-building experiences. Only 9,000 students participate each year in the HOBY leadership camp.

Matthew is the son of Michael and Kathy Zavala. He currently playing on the JV and varsity basketball teams and is a member of the Robotics Club and CYM. Matthew also attends welding classes at the Cobre Valley Institute of Technology.

After high school Matthew would like to attend either the Colorado School of Mines or Arizona State University to major in Electrical Engineering he would also like to learn how to become a gunsmith.

In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his friends, hunting and playing video games. “I am excited to attend the program and meet new people,” he said.
