Walter Tafoya is in the Pinal County Jail facing charges of kidnapping, aggravated assault and theft of means of transportation.
According to the Mammoth Police Department, the charges stem from Tafoya allegedly taking a woman’s car at gunpoint. The woman was able to exit the car when it stopped at the Circle K in Mammoth. She then went into the Circle K and locked herself in the bathroom. A 911 call was made and DPS and Pinal County Sheriff’s Office were notified. Tafoya was stopped a short time later and arrested.
The woman, who knew the suspect, alleged that she had picked him up in San Manuel after he had called her numerous times. She said Tafoya had been on meth about 10 days straight. He then held her at gunpoint while driving around, threatening to shoot her and himself.
Tafoya may be facing more drug related offenses pending the outcome of lab tests.
He remains in the Florence jail on $5,000 bond.
