The Hayden Town Council addressed the issues of animal control at their Nov.meeting.

The town is currently accepting applications to hire combined position of a code enforcement and animal control officer to handle this matter. Local residents commented during the call to the public that the stray dogs are becoming a nuisance and there has been many pit bulls that have running loose in the community.

Dogs in the community are required to have a license and a tag on their collar. Residents are discouraged that dogs without collars are being let go and not detained by Hayden PD.

Mayor Badillo explained that the Town accepts full responsibility and they will hold people accountable for not following the rules regarding animals in the community.

“We do not want anyone to be hurt,” he said. “We realize that this is a big issue the town is committed to finding the right person with proper tools and training to take this position.”

During their monthly meeting the town also voted to allow the Elks club to use a town van to transport needy kids to a Christmas charity program in Mesa where the children will be able to select new clothes at JC Penny.

They also approved a call for election to host an election on March 12, 2013 and May 21, 2013 to select a new councilmember and mayor. Packets to run for council are available at Town Hall and will need to be returned by Dec. 12, 2012.
