The San Manuel High School Lady Miners varsity volleyball team has been taking on some tough competition while still playing hard at the net.
On Sept. 18, the Lady Miners traveled to Santa Cruz Valley High School in Eloy to face off against the Lady Dust Devils. San Manuel returned home with a 3 – 0 loss.
Santa Cruz took the first set 25 – 16, also took the second set 25 – 13, and finished off the evening 25 – 22.
Offensively for the Lady Miners, Brittany Allison had four kills, one ace, and three blocks; Mireya Tamayo had one kill, one ace, and five digs; Angelica Zuniga had eight kills, and four blocks; Julia Vasquez had one kill; Analisa Robles had five kills, two aces, two blocks, and one dig; Felicia Gomez had four kills, three aces, four digs, and 12 assists; Lyana Waddell had three aces, and two digs.
On Sept. 19, the Lady Miners headed over to Oro Valley to take on the Pusch Ridge Lady Lions. San Manuel gave it their all but still came up short taking the 3 – 0 loss. the Lady Miners fell in the first set 22 – 25, battled in the second set 22 – 25, and could not catch up in the third set 15 – 25.
Offensively, Brittany Allison had four kills, two aces, one block, one dig, and one assist; Angelica Zuniga had six kills, and three blocks; Mireya Tamayo had one kill, and five digs; Kadi Monfred had two kills, one block, four digs, and two assists; Julia Vasquez had one kill, two blocks, and two assists; Analisa Robles had four kills, two aces, and six blocks; and Felicia Gomez had five kills, five blocks, three digs, and 12 assists.
The Lady Miners will travel to Coolidge to face off against Imagine Prep on Oct. 3, with the JV playing at 5 p.m. and the varsity taking the court at 6 p.m.
