After winning their first three matches of the season, the Lady Lobo volleyball team went into a slump, dropping their next four matches.
The slump started when the Lady Monsoons of Mesa Prep Academy came to Lobo Gym and handed the Lobos a five set defeat. The Lady Lobos fought hard but had trouble landing their spikes, losing the first two sets with score 22 to 25 and 18 to 25. The Lady Lobos started talking and moving finally getting the spikes and serves inside the lines to win the next two sets with scores of 25 to 23 and 27 to 25 to force the fifth set. The fifth set was exciting with the score going back and forth with Mesa Prep finally winning 13 to 15.
The five set game must have taken a lot out of the Lady Lobos as they dropped their next two matches on the road, both in three sets.
They took it on the chin at San Manuel with poor play and no movement losing in three sets 21 to 25, 21 to 25 and 13 to 25.
The next three-set loss for the Lady Lobos came at the hands of their rivals, the Lady Bearcats. The Lobos could not do anything right in the first set scoring only four service points in their 11 to 25 first set loss. The Lobos played better the next two sets but still their non-movement and non-communication cost them the sets 20 to 25 and 23 to 25.
The Lady Lobos hosted a rare Saturday match taking on the Lady Wildcats of Joseph City High School. The match started well for the Lady Lobos with their serves good and their spiking even better winning the first set 25 to 17. It would be as good as it would get as their serves were sent back and their spiking went almost dead losing the second set 19 to 25. The Lobo serving and spiking went by the wayside and their movement and talking stopped losing the next two sets and the match to see their season record fall three wins against four losses.
The Lady Lobos’ tough schedule continues this week with the long bus ride to Ft. Thomas High School to take on the Lady Apaches on Tuesday, followed by their rematch with San Manuel on Thursday at Lobo Gym. The matches start at 5 p.m.
