The Lady Lobo volleyball team started practice a couple of weeks ago in preparation for another successful season.
It will be hard for head coach Marissa Gallego to replace last year’s senior players who played a major part in the winning season, but the cupboard was not left empty. There are six senior Lady Lobos stepping it up to take the leadership role. Four of the six seniors started at times with Devin Estrada and Kyana Garcia, and they will be counted on to lead this year’s team. Also being counted on for their experience will be seniors Karina Serrano and Julissa Westrope. The other senior members of the team are Stephanie Encinas and Ariana Grijalva. The remainder of the varsity roster will be filled by a talented group of underclasswomen
The Lady Lobos have a full 18-match schedule starting with a controlled scrimmage against the Lady Miners of San Manuel on Friday, Aug. 23, at 5:30 p.m. The Lady Lobos will be playing several new teams with St. Johns, Patagonia, Joseph City, and Mogollon joining the regular teams on their schedule. They also have two tournaments on their schedule. The girls will travel to Pima and Florence high schools to play in tournaments.
