With the recent very sad news of our local Bank of the West branch closing, and the re-assigning of DES services to Globe, we people in the Copper Basin need to make sure we appreciate all of our local businesses and service providers who have made the commitment to stay open, stay in business, and stay HERE!
Whenever a new business launches here in Kearny it’s a major milestone for them to survive the first twelve months. So ‘hats off’ to Lisa and Roger for celebrating their first full year in business with the West End Café! Hoorah!
I remember the amazing surge of energy “Rog” put in to get the Health Inspection completed at the same time that the inspectors were in town for the start of last year’s Octoberfest celebration. After the Pinal County inspector was finished with all the food booths, she visited the restaurant, checked all the Ps and Qs, and gave them their permit to start serving. Roger’s mom, Linda was “volunteered” to help get the restaurant started, and most patrons have enjoyed visiting with her whenever she’s not too busy. What a FIRST MONTH that was! Can you imagine getting up at 4:00 AM and working till well after dark every day? But they did it, and now they’ve re-established The West End Café and have dug deep to keep it going for a full year.
They couldn’t have done it without the ongoing support of regular customers, winter visitors, and all the good people who’ve patronized The West End Café over the past twelve months. Last spring Lisa learned to cook really F-A-S-T when large groups of touring motorcyclers began arriving to continue a tradition that began with the original version of the restaurant. It looks like this portion of the business is coming back after the hot summer months.
In addition, the Kearny Golf Course has supported them when golfers stop by for breakfast before playing, or for lunch following the popular Wednesday scramble. And Roger has worked with the Golf Course to “host” a Friday Fish Fry where the proceeds benefit keeping the Kearny Golf Course open. That’s a huge resource to the entire Copper Basin community. We need our golf course!
Finally, we need to mention the dedicated and efficient team of cooks and servers that “make it all happen.” Here they are: Amanda Petty, Alexandria Lopez, Dawna Romero-Abshier, and Jenna Cruz. Thanks, guys!
And congratulations to Roger and Lisa (and, of course, Roger’s mother, Linda) on a full year of business!
