On Oct. 6;the Copper Town Association held their 4th Annual Copper Town Days celebration. Festivities started at 11 am;with the presentation of the flag by the Knights of Columbus;followed by State Senator Barbara McGuire leading the pledge of allegiance and the reading of a proclamation from Governor Jent Brewer to the people of San Manuel and surrounding communities. This was followed by a variety of activities which included a Youth Soccer Tournament;live music;folklorico dancing;Sun Life Dental bus;information booths;arts and crafts booths;as well as food vendors.
At the opposite end of the venue;a car show sponsored by Oracle Ford and a host of businesses in and around the tri-community area: Larry Manning Auto Cosmetics;Sun LIfe Family Health Center;Jaguar and Land Rover;Hardin Brothers Automotive;Inc.;Quality Paint and Body;Car Quest Automotive Parts;Discount Tire- 8125 N. The winners of the various car classes included: Street Rod 1900-1939 – Jim Hathaway and Vern Santos; Street Rod 1940 & Up – Frank McCory and Larry Fowler; Stock Car Pre 1965- Joey Gonzales and Dave Folkers; Stock Car 1965 & Up – Gordon Wortherspoon and Bob Metz; Stock Trucks 1900 & Up – Les Spangle; Custom Modified Truck 1900 & Up – Joe Gamez and Richard Wilson; Off Road Trucks – Mike Gonzalez and Robert and Connie Estrada; Motorcycle -Joe Hurtado; Low Riders Custom/Modified – Zeke Borunda and Eddie Valenzuela; Under Construction – Mike McDade and Rick Schofield. The Grand Prize;“Best of Show” was won by Jim Hathaway;who entered his 1938 Willy’s truck.
