The Bearcats girls’ volleyball team won the Salt River volleyball tournament last weekend at Salt River High School. After earning the second-seed in pool play, the Bearcats defeated Superior High School to win the championship.
Head coach Rikki Galka said it was a good tournament for her team and provided good experience for some of her younger players.
According to Coach Galka, there were eight teams competing at the tournament and said Superior High School and San Tan Foothills High School provided the toughest competition for her team.
“The girls played united as one (in the championship match),” Galka said about her team’s performance. “They had so much energy and so much determination.”
Before the tournament last week, the Bearcats’ defeated Hayden 3 – 0 on October 3, 2013.
Coach Galka has enjoyed watching her team grow and improve as the season has gone on.
“It’s really fun to watch them grow, play together, and really trust and help each other,” she said. “They played united and that’s what won the tournament.”
The Bearcats are off this week during the break. They return to action on October 15, 2013 at St. Johns. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
