The seventh-ranked Ray Bearcats won their third consecutive game to start the season as they crushed the Patagonia Lobos, 50 – 14.
The Bearcats started the scoring when Destry Yocum and Dominic Bravo hooked up for a 60-yard touchdown pass and reception. The PAT was good and the ‘Cats led, 7 – 0. Yocum, a junior, completed seven passes for 123 yard and 3 TD.
The Lobos responded on the ensuing drive and after a successful two-point conversion attempt they led the ‘Cats, 8 – 7.
The Lobos lead did not last long as senior Dominic Bravo returned their kickoff 85 yards for a touchdown. The successful two-point conversion made the score, 15 – 8. The points from Bravo’s kickoff return were the first of 43 unanswered points for the ‘Cats as they put the game out of reach.
In addition to his kickoff return, Bravo added 4 receptions, 74 yards, and 2 TD. He finished with a total of 3 TD in the game. Freshman running back Paul Wormwood contributed with 6 rushes, 54 yards, and 1 TD. Robbin Newman added 2 rushes, 20 yards, and 1 TD. Joe Rudy Lorona had 2 receptions, 45 yards, and 1 TD.
The Bearcats scored on defense as well. Senior Ryan Bickley returned a Lobo fumble for a TD. He also led the defense with eight tackles. Yocum and Bravo each finished with seven tackles. Rexx Sosa and Jacob Pace each had five tackles. Julio Noriega, Paul Wormwood, Seth Harmon, and Jason Cruz had four tackles each.
Destry Yocum, Dominic Bravo and Julio Noriega were named players of the game.
The Bearcats return to action when they take on a 2 – 1 Hayden team on Sept. 20, 2013, at 7 p.m. for the annual Homecoming game.
