The Lady Lobo volleyball team, after a good start winning their first two matches, finally tasted defeat when the Lady Apaches came to Lobo Gym last Tues.

The Lady Lobo match against the Lady Panthers of Superior High School was canceled because of problems in the Superior Gym and will be rescheduled for a date in Oct.

The Lady Lobos found out quick that the Lady Apaches of Ft. Thomas High School would be a tough assignment when the first set went into overtime.

The Lady Lobos were landing their serves and getting solid returns on the Lady Apache serves. With the Lady Lobos ahead 24 to 19, the Apaches fought back to take a 24 to 25 lead and it went back and forth until Hayden pulled out the win with a 28 to 26 score.

The first set took its toll on the Lady Lobos and saw them come out flat in the second set not landing their serves and scoring only four points on their serving dropping the set with a lopsided 14 to 25 score.

The Lady Lobos came back strong in the third set hitting their serves and not allowing the Lady Apaches to land theirs for another lopsided win this time for the Lobos, 25 to 15 to take a two set to one lead.

The two lopsided scores took a toll on both teams in the fourth set with both teams getting nothing but serve breaks.

The Lady Lobos fought back taking a 17 to 15 lead but it would be as good as it would get for the Lobos when their serving went bad and the Lady Apaches started to land theirs for a fourth set win 21 to 25 to tie the match at two sets apiece.

The fifth set looked like it was going to be a runaway for the Lady Apaches when they took advantage of the Lady Lobos inability to return their serves for a 0 to 7 lead.

The Lady Lobos fought back to take a 12 to 11 lead but the play of the Lady Apaches on the next was too much for the Lady Lobos as they dropped the fifth set and the match with the 12 to 15 score to suffer their first defeat of the season.

After losing their match to the Lady Braves of San Carlos, the Lady Lobo JV played strong in their match against the Lady Apache JV winning in three sets taking the first set 25 to 16, lost the second set 19 to 25 and took the third set 15 to 6.

The Lady Lobo volleyball team will play two matches this week traveling to San Manuel High School on Wed. Sept. 12 to take on the Lady Miners and will return to Lobo Gym on Thurs. Sept.13 for a match against the Lady Tigers of Globe High School.

The matches will start at 5:00 p.m. with the Lobo JV on the court first followed by the varsity match around 6:00 p.m.
